Citrix

Two primary Citrix modes of operation;

  • XenDesktop where each user gets a full virtual desktop and
  • XenApp where virtual apps are presented on the users primary desktop.

Supporting the XenDesktop case is trivially done by running a Manatee on the Citrix server s.t. each client runs a local CM - same setup as for local desktops.

The XenApp case is more complicated.

XenApp

With XenApp each application can either be running on the local desktop or virtualised in the Citrix infrastructure. Therefore we need to synchronise all virtual applications on the local desktop.

To do this we have two deployment options;

  1. Letting all applications interface directly with a centralised CM – or proxy some/all through a local Manatee
  2. Let the Manatee running on the local desktop act as a centralised CM and proxy all applications through (in their perspective) a local Manatee via Citrix ICA channels
